KOMVIDA: Para Las Niñas y Mujeres Rurales (For the Rural Woman and Girls)

“KOMVIDA: Para Las Niñas y Mujeres Rurales” is a short documentary in partnership with the founders of Komvida, Nuria and Bea, about the Spanish painter Eugenio Hermoso, a Spanish kombucha company, and the important role rural Spanish women have played for the both of them.

Eugenio Hermoso is considered one of the greatest exponents of Extremaduran traditional painting, capturing, with great realism, the life and customs of Extremadura at the beginning of the 20th century. The images of children and young women, the “real people” who live in his surroundings of Fregenal de la Sierra were his main models.

Many of his paintings are either portraits of the rural women who lived in his hometown or a depiction of their environment and the work they did in the olive fields surrounding Fregenal de la Sierra, which was their only means of earning a living at that time,

Growing up in Fregenal de la Sierra, Nuria, and Bea, they noticed there still lacked opportunities for rural women to work in their hometowns and provide enough for their families. So when the company began to grow and they needed to scale their operations, they decided to bring their company back home and start a factory where they employ mostly women from Fregenal de la Sierra.

This project is an homage to all the rural women who came before, and it’s also a testament to the steps Nura and Bea are taking to give rural women and girls the opportunity to live the best lives they can where their roots are.
